Following on from the activities to promote Spanish wines in Poland, which began with the tasting of Almudena Alberca (MW), A WALK AROUND THE GREAT SPANISH DIVERSITY, in which Losada 2017 was selected
It is now when a visit to the region of El Bierzo becomes essential to enjoy the landscape, with its yellow, brown and orange colours and new experiences.
Its seasonal products such as chestnuts and apples Reineta and its traditional dishes such as Botillo, the true star of this region's gastronomy, together with a cuisine with more avant-garde trends, you will want to accompany them for the first time with Paraje (lieu-dit) wines and wines from Villa of Losada winery, one of the first wineries to launch wines for this new label, which represent a new era.
The new classifications of vineyards are subject to greater demands on production and greater control, and the vineyards of the new municipalities are put to good use.
Mencia and Godello are the two native varieties of the region that make their wines unique and different from the rest, but others such as Garnacha Tintorera, Estaladiña or Merenzao are also involved in these wines with the new labelling in geographical units.
Altos de Losada. Villa de San Lorenzo wine 2019, is a limited edition, as the area has all the characteristics to produce a great godello: altitude, fresh area that allows slow ripening, and slate soil. It is aged for eight months on lees 80% in used French oak casks of 2,000 litres.
It shows aromas of citrus and white flowers, stone fruit and pear, minerality and a certain saltiness. Generous and mature, with great freshness and vitality.
Altos de Losada. Wine from Villa de Valtuille de Arriba 2018, a red that has its origin in 17 small pieces of old Mencia vineyard. Recovered by Losada Vinos de Finca, they have been grown and produced separately. The encounter between the clays of its origin and its 15 months of aging in French oak barrels, form an earthy, lively, carnal, and deeply captivating wine. Elegant, fragrant and complex nose. The first wine to be made in Losada and which sums up the philosophy of its land project.
Altos de Losada "La Bienquerida" came from "las Chas"2018. (lieu-dit) La Bienquerida is a small vineyard with slate soils, mencía and other little known varieties (estaladiña and merenzao among others). Almost on the verge of disappearing, it has been recovered by Losada Vinos de Finca. It shows the combination between a singular vineyard, the variety and man.
It remains for 15 months in French oak barrels of different sizes. Fresh violet, mischievous minerality, a layer of chocolate over the ripe fruit, and melted tannins that captivate with their delicacy.
The foundation of Losada Vinos de Finca is the viticulture and interpretation of the terroir of El Bierzo. Located on the Losada estate, halfway between Cacabelos and Villafranca, the challenge is to choose plots where each variety is best expressed, following a traditional production process and a subtle use of the barrel, which gives prominence to the terroir.
