Altos de Losada 2015, 91 Points   —Thomas Matthews, Wine Spectator, Web 2017

Dark notes of tar, licorice and smoke frame a core of plum and currant fruit in this savory red. Has good density, with light, firm tannins and juicy acidity imparting balance. Drink now through 2025

Tasting Losada Vinos de Finca. James Suckling reviews

17 de August de 2017

The Alluring Freshness of Spain: 1200 wines scored

Mencía is an equally exciting grape making fantastic linear and fresh reds in places like Ribeira Sacra, Bierzo and Valdeorras. The grape seems to really communicate the cool, minerally character of the soils in these particular regions.

LOSADA VINOS DE FINCA MENCÍA BIERZO ALTOS DE LOSADA LA BIENQUERIDA 2015
Score 96
Sweet cherry fruit, enormal herbal-spicy aromas and intense minerality. Great concentration and brilliance that carries through the long electric finish. Great now.
Publish Date: Monday, July 24, 2017

LOSADA VINOS DE FINCA MENCÍA BIERZO 2015
Score 95
A sweet raspberry nose that is so fresh and pure. Electric tension between the fruit, tannins and acidity, and a great texture too. A stunning wine that redefines what Spanish red wine can be. Drink now.
Publish Date: Monday, July 24, 2017

LOSADA VINOS DE FINCA GODELLO BIERZO 2016
Score 93
Dried straw, mango and candied spiced pears. The palate delivers a crunchy, smooth and supple feel with dried peach. A precise, focused finish. Drink now.
Publish Date: Monday, July 24, 2017

LOSADA VINOS DE FINCA MENCÍA BIERZO ALTOS DE LOSADA VIÑEDOS VIEJOS 2015
Score 93
Alluring pepper and vibrant, brambly, dark berry and cherry fruits. The palate has such conviction and focus with striking dark cherry fruits and polished tannins. This wine holds your interest to the final moment. A great wine. Drink now.
Publish Date: Monday, July 24, 2017

LOSADA VINOS DE FINCA MENCÍA BIERZO EL PÁJARO ROJO 2016
Score 92
This is really minerally with granite and blueberry character. Medium to full body, firm and linear tannins and a long finish. Drink now.

Pájaro Rojo, our young mencía wine is fun to drink during the summer too¡

29 de June de 2017

The reds are also for summer. Our young mencía has great qualities that work well with high temperatures.

A rich and unctuous Mencía, this has a fluency in the mouth, deploying its ripeness,
completely covering the palate with caramelized and voluptuous flavors. For grilled
meats.
Vinified with Mencía grapes sourced from old vines of 30-40 years average, selected from the coolest areas, tries a youthful wine, fruity, that shows the most of the varietal and the soils

GRAPE: mencía
ESTATE: old vines , selected from the coolest areas.
SOILS: gentle clay slopes
AGEING: 4 months in French oak barrels.

Two new reviews from Wine Enthusiast

09 de June de 2017

Losada 2014
This wine's ripe berry aromas are tinged with schisty minerality while showing restrained oaky scents of coconut and vanilla. Its saturated, firm palate features big tannins, tomato, plum, baking spice and coffee flavors and a dark, toasty finish.

—90 Points

—Michael Schachner, Wine Enthusiast, August 2017

El Pájaro Rojo 2015

Rubbery, leathery berry aromas are edged with woody accents. There's intensity and depth to the palate, which doles out rustic plum and berry flavors. A moderately powerful but ripe finish concludes this likable Mencía from a good year.

—89 Points

—Michael Schachner, Wine Enthusiast, Aug 2017

Sommelier Wine Awards: double gold mendals for Losada and Losada Godello

17 de May de 2017

Sommelier Wine Awards, by the on trade for the on trade: double gold mendals for Losada and Losada Godello

Losada Godello 2015

Timothy Connor of Bread Street Kitchen liked this Gold-winning Godello’s ‘fresh lemon and jasmine, well-rounded character’, while Portland Restaurant’s James Fryer highlighted ‘smoke and hazelnuts, under-ripe guava aromas with flavours of almond milk, peach skin and baking spices’. For Chez Bruce’s Sarah Bachiorri, this was reminiscent of ‘a baked apple pie, with a salty finish – nice texture and richness’. £12.99 Matthew Clark

Losada, Crianza, Bierzo, 2011,

A red Gold to complement Losada’s equivalent white win, this was ‘revealing a bit of age, with tobacco leaf, mushroom and mature leather notes on the nose, perfect for a steak house’, began The Sign of the Don’s Carlos Ferreira, with Robert Mason of Cheese at Leadenhall finding: ‘Lots of sweet spices, earthy cigar box and pipe tobacco notes, a meaty nose then lots of brooding, dark fruits with ripe, grippy tannins on a balanced, complex palate.’ A match for ox cheek, thought team leader Sarah Jane Evans MW. £10.98 Matthew Clark
The Sommelier Wine Awards is a wine competition with a difference. As Britain’s only on-trade wine competition, it focuses entirely on wines aimed at the on-trade. Since it started in 2007 it has grown to become the first point of reference for the UK's on-trade wine buyers as well as the key competition for wines trying to increase their presence in hotels, pubs, bars and restaurants across the world. The SWA judges all serve or buy wine for their venues in the on-trade, or are leading consultants. Wines with general distribution in the ?high street are not permitted to enter, except for sparkling and fortified wines, or merchants' online-exclusive wines.
