Great featured article on Losada Vinos De Finca Wine Spectator! -“Established in 2004 , winemaker Amancio Fernández comes from a deep- rooted family of local grapegrowers. The bodega- a striking work of contemporary architecture- is designed to nurture wines of elegance and purity rather than power ( using French oak, but only larger casks) The vineyards are all owned or managed by the winery and are located in the heart of the region, privileging clay soils that, Fernandez believes beget wines of more subtlety than schist souls common in the region. 2018 Wine Style Awards
Vivino’s 2018 Wine Style Awards recognize the very best and most beloved wines from around the globe. This year’s award winning wines were determined by Vivino’s 26 million users and the millions of wine ratings they’ve submitted over the past 12 months.
The 2018 Wine Style Award Winners include the top ten best-rated wines across 149 categories. In order to qualify, wines had to have a minimum of 50 ratings given during the past 12 months. Each wine style description includes an introduction from acclaimed author and wine expert Karen MacNeil.
Losada
The elegance Losada has brought to the new Bierzo in a very easy-drinking style.
From managed vineyards on more gentle slopes in which clay soils predominate, is aged nine months in French oak and expresses the more tender and juicy side of the Mencía variety.
Altos de Losada
The wine with the greatest complexity and individual character, displaying all the subtlety and elegance that Losada has brought to the new Bierzo style. Altos de Losada has intensity and energy, with meaty, toasty and earthy notes framing black cherry, plum, licorice and mineral flavors. Chewy tannins resolve on the sanguine finish. Austere, but shows character.
