2014 Altos de Losada (Bierzo) – 90 Points Smooth cool aromas of cedar, lemon peel and cola accent black-fruit scents on this easygoing Mencía. Reedy blackberry flavors come with notes of herbs and spice, while the finish is mild in acidity and hence so and friendly. Drink now
The wine with the greatest complexity and individual character, displaying all the subtlety and elegance that Losada has brought to the new Bierzo style. Altos de Losada has intensity and energy, with meaty, toasty and earthy notes framing black cherry, plum, licorice and mineral flavors. Chewy tannins resolve on the sanguine finish. Austere, but shows character.
ESTATE: unique high-altitude Losada vineyards near the villages of upper Valtuille and Pieros close to the Losada property.
SOILS: clay slopes with different exposures.
GRAPE VARIETY: Old vines Mencía.
AGEING: 15 months in French oak barrels.

Losada 2015 Godello (Bierzo) – 91 Points
Losada is known for its red Mencía, but this Godello debut is well done. A waxy oral nose with apple and stone-fruit aromas sets up a round full balanced palate with bold acidity. Salty notes accent peach and apple flavors, while this displays grip on a lingering finish. Sophisticated is a good way to describe this

2013 Losada Spanish Red "La Bienquerida"
Winery: Losada
Vintage: 2013
Wine Name/Vineyard: "La Bienquerida"
Ken's Wine Rating: Very Good+ (92)
Review date: January 19, 2017
Wine Review: This very dark violet colored Mencia from Spain is very good. It opens with a musty wood influenced black plum bouquet. On the palate, this wine is full bodied, balanced and savory. The flavor profile is a tasty cedar influenced black cherry with notes of dark chocolate, nutmeg and clove. I also detected a hint of red currant towards the end. The finish is dry and its fruit flavors and moderate tannins fade away nicely. This wine would pair well with braised short ribs. Enjoy – Ken
From an ancient and locally legendary single vineyard plot ncludes a tiny percentage of indigenous vitis vinifera varieties that predate the Mencía, incorporated into the blend for added complexity. e old vines, meticulously rehabilitated following long abandonment, produce an exceptional wine that represents the quintessence of Bierzo.
The strong personality of the wines produced by this unique vineyard has made it historically one of the most desired plots. Almost abandoned lately, nowadays the plot has been recovered by Losada Vinos de Finca.

Losada 2015 flies high again with Swiss ????
Swiss has selected our Losada 2015 as premium wine. Losada will be on board next spring and has been chosen for first class wine list.
The elegance Losada has brought to the new Bierzo in a very easy-drinking style.
From managed vineyards on more gentle slopes in which clay soils predominate, is aged nine months in French oak and expresses the more tender and juicy side of the Mencía variety.
ESTATE: Vineyards mainly located close to the Losada property
SOILS: Gentle clay slopes.
GRAPE VARIETY: old vines Mencía.
AGEING: 12 months in French oak barrels.

La Bienquerida, a truly special, unexpected and singular wine, with the whole soul of El Bierzo.
La Bienquerida is a small vineyard of mencía and other varieties little known. In the past the vineyard most desired by the locals, for the strong personality of their wines. Almost about to disappear, today it has been recovered by Losada Vinos de Finca. It shows the combination between a singular vineyard, the variety and the man.
Aged 15 months in French oak barrels 40% new and 60% in second year.
Red-cherry red, very well covered. Intense nose, fruity, aromas of black and red fruit jam, floral touch, balsamic, notes of bitter chocolate, lactic touch, toffee. Tasty in the mouth, well constituted, with body and breadth, balanced, lively acidity, with juiciness in the passage. Fine woods well integrated.
Persistent finish with aromas of chocolate and fruit in liquor.

They reduced the amount of oak for the 2013 Losada, trying to show more the Mencía character in the wine. The nose denotes more freshness, it doesn't seem as concentrated as in previous vintages, and the palate also shows better balance. I like the direction this cuvée is going within the house style. There were 92,428 bottles and 300 magnums produced.
