“Bierzo explained” Written by Ferran Centelles 1 May 2017- Jancis Robinson

Jancis Robinson: 17,5 Losada Godello y 17 Altos de Losada, son excelentes puntuaciones para Losada Vinos de Finca

“Bierzo explained” Written by Ferran Centelles 1 May 2017
Losada Godello 2015 Bierzo 20% is aged in second-use barrels, 80% is aged on its fine lees in stainless steel tanks. Vineyards are at 700 m elevation on slate soils. Moderate yields of 4,500 kg/ha. Production limited to 6,000 bottles. Tasted blind. Very remarkable aromatics showing quince, ripe peach, a touch of oak; a very deep and intense nose. The wine has a great palate, lots of flavour and concentration, it is voluminous and rich. For sure one of the best Godellos in Bierzo, powerful but still refined. Mouth-watering wine. (FC)14% Drink 2016-2019 17.5

Altos de Losada 2014, #17 puntos,
Altos de Losada 2014 Bierzo70-year-old Mencía. Limited production of 7,300 bottles. The vineyards are planted on clay soils in Valtuille, Pieros and Villadecanes villages. Only native yeasts are used for fermentation, and it is aged for 15 months in new and nearly-new 500-litre French oak barrels. Tasted blind. Very good aromatics, pure and showing ripe black fruit, plums and herbal lift. Lots of fruit on the front palate, mellow and superbly integrated tannins, a dense fruit character and a savoury aspect at the back. Very good wine, fruit-charged but still silky, with superb management (FC)14% Drink 2018-2022

Pobladura 2015, Losada’s move towards a more aerial style of Mencía

Losada Vinos de Finca, Bierzo
50% of the wine was aged in amphorae, 50% in 500-litre barrels. This is a fragrant, evocative red exemplifying Losada’s move towards a more aerial style of Mencía. The palate is elegant and savoury, with firm tannins but expressive nonetheless. A great effort towards finesse. 17.0 points

Close your eyes and picture Cinco de Mayo. What do you see? If the answer is XXL sombreros, 2-for-1 margaritas and party platters of gummy, room-temperature cheese quesadillas, you’re not alone. But the rich heritage of Mexico deserves better.

LOSADA VINOS DE FINCA Bierzo Losada 2014 Score: 91 | $20
Generous yet focused, this red delivers black cherry, plum, blood orange, chocolate and toasty flavors, with savory notes of licorice and fennel. Light tannins and citrusy acidity support the fleshy texture. Expressive. Mencía. Drink now through 2021. 8,000 cases made.—T.M.

Losada Godello 2015. Ken's Wine Rating: Very Good+ (90)

Here is a new review that just came out from Ken’s Wine Guide.
2015 Losada Spanish White "Godello"
Vintage: 2015

KWG Score: 91.3 (based on 3 reviews)

Ken's Wine Rating: Very Good+ (90)

Review date: March 20, 2017

Wine Review: This dark yellow colored Godello opens with a very fragrant pineapple, ripe strawberry and kiwi bouquet. On the palate, this wine is full bodied, slightly acidic, rich and fully coats your mouth. The flavor profile is a mineral infused Bosc pear with notes of almond and oak. I also detected hints of white grape juice and lager beer. The finish is dry and its flavors linger and last for quite a while. This Godello is food friendly and warrants rich foods. I would pair with a seafood casserole. Enjoy - Ken

2013 Losada Spanish Red "La Bienquerida"

Winery: Losada

Vintage: 2013

Wine Name/Vineyard: "La Bienquerida"

Ken's Wine Rating: Very Good+ (92)

Review date: January 19, 2017

Wine Review: This very dark violet colored Mencia from Spain is very good. It opens with a musty wood influenced black plum bouquet. On the palate, this wine is full bodied, balanced and savory. The flavor profile is a tasty cedar influenced black cherry with notes of dark chocolate, nutmeg and clove. I also detected a hint of red currant towards the end. The finish is dry and its fruit flavors and moderate tannins fade away nicely. This wine would pair well with braised short ribs. Enjoy – Ken

Altos de Losada 2014 #90 Wine Enthusiast y #91 Wine Enthusiast Losada Godello 2015

2014 Altos de Losada (Bierzo) – 90 Points Smooth cool aromas of cedar, lemon peel and cola accent black-fruit scents on this easygoing Mencía. Reedy blackberry flavors come with notes of herbs and spice, while the finish is mild in acidity and hence so and friendly. Drink now

Losada 2015 Godello (Bierzo) – 91 Points
Losada is known for its red Mencía, but this Godello debut is well done. A waxy oral nose with apple and stone-fruit aromas sets up a round full balanced palate with bold acidity. Salty notes accent peach and apple flavors, while this displays grip on a lingering finish. Sophisticated is a good way to describe this

Sommelier Wine Awards, by the on trade for the on trade: double gold medals for Losada and Losada Godello

Losada Godello 2015
Timothy Connor of Bread Street Kitchen liked this Gold-winning Godello’s ‘fresh lemon and jasmine, well-rounded character’, while Portland Restaurant’s James Fryer highlighted ‘smoke and hazelnuts, under-ripe guava aromas with flavours of almond milk, peach skin and baking spices’. For Chez Bruce’s Sarah Bachiorri, this was reminiscent of ‘a baked apple pie, with a salty finish – nice texture and richness’. £12.99 Matthew Clark
Losada, Crianza, Bierzo, 2011,
A red Gold to complement Losada’s equivalent white win, this was ‘revealing a bit of age, with tobacco leaf, mushroom and mature leather notes on the nose, perfect for a steak house’, began The Sign of the Don’s Carlos Ferreira, with Robert Mason of Cheese at Leadenhall finding: ‘Lots of sweet spices, earthy cigar box and pipe tobacco notes, a meaty nose then lots of brooding, dark fruits with ripe, grippy tannins on a balanced, complex palate.’ A match for ox cheek, thought team leader Sarah Jane Evans MW.  £10.98 Matthew Clark
The Sommelier Wine Awards is a wine competition with a difference. As Britain’s only on-trade wine competition, it focuses entirely on wines aimed at the on-trade. Since it started in 2007 it has grown to become the first point of reference for the UK's on-trade wine buyers as well as the key competition for wines trying to increase their presence in hotels, pubs, bars and restaurants across the world. The SWA judges all serve or buy wine for their venues in the on-trade, or are leading consultants. Wines with general distribution in the  high street are not permitted to enter, except for sparkling and fortified wines, or merchants' online-exclusive wines.
